Bio: Don is a cardiothoracic surgeon (he fixes broken hearts), and was Chief of Surgery before he became Chief of Staff. He was succeeded as Chief of Surgery first by Robert "Rocket" Romano, and later by Lucien Dubenko. He is currently Chief of Staff, succeeding Kerry Weaver and Angela Gilliam, respectively.
His wife is deceased and she was very religious, and a Quaker. He had a strained relationship with his son, Scotty, before he died of leukemia at the age of 12, and that tension is something he regrets to this day. He tends to cling to his daughter, overcompensating for the distance he allowed between himself and his son.
